Campus Technology describes Bates' new wirelesss PA system
Campus Technology magazine spoke to Tom Carey ’73, director of security and campus safety at Bates, for a story about the College’s long-range wireless public address system, known as the LoudMouth. The system allows public-safety personnel use a portable two-way radio, base station or mobile radio to broadcast voice messages over PA speakers from up to two miles away. Carey says the system fills a gap in emergency response, ensuring that vital public-safety messages get to people who don’t carry or don’t pay attention to cell phones or similar devices.
