Aside from a few hours at Convocation in the fall and Commencement in the spring, the ceremonial Bates mace spends its days locked in the official Bates vault in Lane Hall.
Early this morning, Jay Phillips and Virginia Sturgis of Facilities Services headed into the vault to secure the Bates mace for Commencement on Sunday. We followed along.
