Welcome to the first edition of BatesNews for 2024–25, and a special welcome to parents, students, and families of the incoming Class of 2028, who are receiving BatesNews for the first time and who arrive on campus Thursday, Aug. 29.

What it is

Produced by Bates Communications and Marketing, BatesNews shares college stories and news with Bates alumni, students, parents, friends, and the campus community.

When it is

BatesNews is emailed every Friday except during college breaks and the month of July. The Bates community also receives a Tuesday companion email, Sports Update, with the latest results, honors, and stories from Bobcat sports.

Magazine Editor and BCO Editorial Director H. Jay Burns visits June Lovelace Griffin '36 at her 21 Delcliff Lane home in Lewiston to share the online story about her passion for painting.
For a BatesNews story several years ago, editor Jay Burns interviews centenarian Lovelace Griffin, Class of 1936, at her home near campus. The photograph was created by Phyllis Graber Jensen, who produces the monthly slideshow for BatesNews among many image-driven projects.

All Bates alumni, parents, students, faculty, and staff receive BatesNews. If you have a friend or other family member who wants to receive these weekly Bates emails, here’s how to subscribe.
