Liaw of Ontario, Calif., paints digitally, a medium to which she gravitated through her interest in medieval fantasy and Internet role-playing forums.
The forums allow for the collaborative creation of elaborate worlds whose mythical characters generate complex histories. “The amount of control that I have in digital painting allows me to express myself more than any other medium,” she says.
