Senior Exhibition artist Caroline Sheridan ’12
Sheridan of Providence, R.I., relishes the freedom afforded by abstraction.
Influenced by the Russian Suprematists and Constructivists, as well as by the Abstract Expressionists, she begins her paintings with a geometric “skeleton” onto which she applies ink and thinned paint by pouring and dripping, inviting randomness into her process. She then develops the image further with brushwork. “My goal is equal parts equilibrium and tension: the balance between feeling whole and feeling active,” she says.
