Peniel Joseph, historian and author, delivered the keynote address on “Reimagining Martin Luther King Jr. in the Age of Obama and the Age of Ferguson.” Joseph is an award-winning author whose books include last year’s Stokely: A Life, a biography of Black Power icon Stokely Carmichael. Morehouse and Bates student debaters presented the annual Benjamin Elijah Mays Debate, arguing the motion: “This house believes that violent resistance to state oppression is justified.”
