Liz Thompson finished her remarkable collegiate skiing career with a flourish last week at the NCAA Skiing Championships, hosted by Bates. Thompson, the first Bates women's alpine skier to qualify for NCAAs in all four of her years, had career-best NCAA finishes in both the giant slalom and the slalom, helping to propel Bates to an outstanding team showing of 13th place overall.

Sam Evans-Brown '09 completes a breakout weekend with his second consecutive fifth-place finish in the Bates Winter Carnival. In March, Bates hosts the 2009 NCAA National Collegiate Men’s and Women’s Skiing Championships and partners with two of Maine’s outstanding skiing venues: Sunday River in Bethel and Black Mountain in Rumford.

Bates first-year alpine skier Bump Heldman (Auburn, Maine) placed ninth out of 58 competitors in the giant slalom on Friday, and 10th out of 58 competitors in Saturday's slalom, leading the Bobcat alpine team over the weekend at the Dartmouth Winter Carnival at Dartmouth Skiway.
