Portland String Quartet to perform

The Portland String Quartet will perform at Bates College Friday, Oct. 2, at 8 p.m. in the Olin Arts Center Concert Hall. The program features Franz Joseph Haydn's String Quartet in D Minor, Op. 76, No. 2, Charles Ives' String Quartet No. 1: The Revival Meeting and Johannes Brahms' String Quartet in A Minor, Op. 51, No. 2. The Bates College Orchestra, directed by William Matthews, Alice Swanson Esty Professor of Music, will perform March 14 at 8 p.m. and March 15 at 2 p.m. in the Olin Arts Center Concert Hall. The public is invited and admission is free.
Chamber ensemble to perform classical music

The Maine Music Society Chamber Ensemble will perform a program of Bach, Bocharini and Brahms March 6 at 8 p.m. in the Olin Arts Center Concert Hall. Tickets purchased in advance are $12 for adults, $11.50 for seniors, $6.25 for students, and free for children 12 and under accompanied by an adult. Tickets purchased at the door are $15 for adults and seniors, $7.50 for students, and free for children 12 and under accompanied by an adult. Organist Calvert Johnson will perform early Spanish organ music and music by Bach and women composers in a concert at Bates at 7:30 p.m. March 10th in the Bates College Chapel. The public is invited to attend free of charge.
