Does Charles Dickens matter? Professor of English Lillian Nayler helps answer the question in the Dec. 12 Wall Street Journal. The question was prompted by two of Charles Dickens' novels -- “A Tale of Two Cities” and “Great Expectations” -- being named last week to Oprah Winfrey’s book club.

Bates' own Shalini Sharan '11 has been selected as one of this year's "Hire Education" bloggers by The Wall Street Journal. The blogs are posted on the WSJ website by nine seniors at different colleges and universities around the United States as they finish their senior year and "look for work in a tough job market."
