BOC Meeting Minutes: 9/11/2024

E-room information:

  • E-room hours: Mon-Thurs 7-8pm + Friday 3-4pm
  • Come hang out!
  • You can get free gear to rent!
    • Personal gear too, not just for BOC trips

Went briefly over some trips that are to be offered + brainstorming + general trip information 

Upcoming trips:

  • Sept 20-22 – Baxter 3-day Trip
  • Sept 28-29 – Flagstaff Canoe Trip
  • Surfing and rock climbing trips will happen at some point this month too
  • Goat hike

Trip Ideas/brainstorming:

  • Hike in the Whites (Addy)
  • White water rafting/floating (Toma + Jonah)
  • If we got someone with ice climbing specialties we could do some fun winter ice climbing stuff

General Trip Information!

  • Trips will have emails about them going out + a Bates Engage Sign up event – check it out!
    • These have waiting lists, don’t be afraid to use them
    • If you cannot make a trip but are signed up, please cancel
  • Trip leaders don’t have hierarchy! We just want to have fun
  • Trips have different classifications (information about this is on the BOC website)
  • Most trips are free, some trips cost extra
    • If money is an issue, use Bates personal expense fund (regardless of financial situation), can provide financial support

Trip leader training in early October 

  • Sign up for this!
  • Free WFA (wilderness first aid) training! (Sept 28-29)
  • Camping!

Other information:

  • Lost Valley is a little ski hill you can go for free (~15 min away)
    • they have good nordic trails 
    • and some downhill
  • BOC sometimes does shuttles there
