Summer reminders for you and your student

Hello, Bates Class of 2028 families –

Whether celebrating high school graduation, getting ready for summer camp and travel, or simply looking forward to quality time together, we hope you and your Bobcats are feeling excited as we head into June. We’re excited too, as we continue supporting you through the process with updates, reminders, and upcoming events.

Registration is now open for several of our summer welcome receptions. RSVP for a gathering in your hometown, or for the event that is most convenient for you. Additional locations and dates will continue to be posted throughout the summer!

Next week, your student will hear from the First-Year Experience (FYE) team about the Summer Resources Lyceum Page, which helps students prepare for the Fall 2024 semester through videos and resources that cover everything from how to register for classes and where to find support on campus, to Bates’ history, mission, and values.

The first Summer Resource – Welcome and FYE Values – opens on Monday, June 10.

Upcoming deadlines for your student:

  • May 31: Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) enroll/waive process – As a reminder, the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) enroll/waive process was due last Friday. If your student did not complete this, a fee will be placed on their student account and they will be enrolled in the SHIP. Questions can be directed to the College Health Account Manager, Lisa Farrington, at Lisa.Farrington@crossagency.com.
  • June 16: E-mail and Network First-Year Form – This is your student’s first step in accessing their Garnet Gateway student portal, where they will fill out additional First-Year Forms (including the SHIP enroll/waive form) prior to arrival this fall. From the Garnet Gateway, they can also approve parent/guardian/support person access for billing and electronic payment.
  • June 19: Register for Virtual Meetups – The FYE Team emailed information about optional virtual meetups to students earlier this week. If your student is interested in attending, they can register now!

Did you know? The Bates First-Year Experience is an award-winning collection of nine linked programs and resources to support students not just through a few days of orientation in August, but throughout their entire first year. The program is centered around a set of six values developed in community with students, faculty, and staff. We encourage you to learn more about the program here.

If you have any questions, reach out to us at parents@bates.edu. You can also find past incoming family email updates online, and you can use the translation widget at the top of the page to read them in another language.

Best from campus,
