Pre-Engineering Support & Resources

For current students interested in careers in engineering, Bates offers joint degree programs with a number of prestigious engineering schools, specifically: Columbia, Case Western Reserve, Dartmouth, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and Washington University in St. Louis.

With the Engineering Combined Plan, students spend three years at Bates taking general education requirements and basic courses in mathematics, physics, and other relevant sciences, before matriculation at the engineering school for concentration in their area of interest for two years. This 3-2 liberal arts/engineering program results in two baccalaureate degrees — one from Bates and one from the specific engineering school.

For more information on joint degree options, please check out detailed information provided by the Physics & Astronomy department and contact Professor Ryan Cole (rcole@bates.edu) for an appointment to discuss your interests.
