Pre-Business Support & Resources
Bates students interested in exploring business professionally have a wide array of industries and roles to consider, ranging from highly quantitative to highly qualitative opportunities. While some employers and industries, specifically large organizations in finance and consulting, require early exploration in order to capitalize on advance recruitment timelines, others are much more flexible and operate on more extended timelines. Regardless of which areas you choose to explore and pursue, schedule an appointment with a counselor to discuss how to engage with Purposeful Work resources, including job shadows, employer info sessions, and alumni networks.
Check out the links below for specific information regarding finance and consulting (that have more advance recruitment timelines as early as the first and second year):

Bates students and alumni interested in pursuing graduate school in business typically decide between pursuing a Master’s degree in a specialized area (such as accounting, finance, human resources, management, or marketing) or pursuing a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA).
While traditional MBA degrees are completed over two years after several years in the workforce, there are other pathways to consider, including: 2+2 deferred admission programs, on-line and part-time programs, and executive programs for professionals who wish to complete their studies while working full-time.
The Bates Center for Purposeful Work collaborates with Bates students and alumni at all stages of the decision-making process around business school. If you would like to schedule an appointment to discuss your interests and options, please do so via Handshake (students) or reach out to our office at purposefulwork@bates.edu (alumni).
