Bates College Financial Support for Medical School Applications
Overview:
Alumni, parents, and friends of the college recognize the costs of applying to Medical School, and have generously donated funds to help some students and alumni with demonstrated financial need in their application process. In academic year 2024-25, the Center for Purposeful Work will distribute $2,000.00, in increments of up to $1,000.00, to defray the costs of some related expenses. As the fund grows over time, so too will the amount of support available to applicants. These funds do not have to be repaid.
NOTE: For applicants interested in MCAT Test Prep, we recommend UWorld, which costs between $600.00-$1,000.00.
Notification
Requests are considered every week during the calendar year so long as funds remain available. Applicants will be contacted by a member of the Center for Purposeful Work staff via email.
Accessing Funds
CURRENT STUDENT: If awarded funds, our default process is to deposit funds into your bank account for you to pay for the expense with your own credit or debit card. In the event that your bank account is not set up for direct deposit with Bates, a paper check will be mailed to you at an address provided by you.
ALUMNI: If awarded funds, alumni will be required to complete a Form W-9 on the Bates Accounting website. Direct deposit would be available as an option.
NOTE: If you do not have a credit or debit card to pay for your expenses, and/or cannot pay for the expenses up-front while waiting for time-sensitive funds to arrive, please let us know under the “Statement of Need” section below.
