Diplomas

Graduating Seniors
The Bates diploma includes the student’s legal name and degree. The name on the diploma is the full legal name as received upon application and admittance to the college.

Corrections to a student’s name require legal documentation, such as a driver’s license or social security card, showing the legal name. If a legal name change has occurred since matriculation at the college an official copy of the court order must be submitted to the Registrar’s office. The name will be updated in the database and will appear on the diploma and official transcript.

Replacement Diplomas for Alumni
The Registrar’s Office will provide replacement diplomas for Bates alumni as needed. The new diploma will contain the date your degree was conferred though the signatures will be those of the current Bates President and Secretary of the Board of Trustees.

Diploma replacements are now handled electronically, and there is no need to mail a check. Please see the Credential Request page to order a replacement diploma.

Translation of the Diploma
We understand that as the Bates diploma is written in Latin a translation may be helpful. Please email registrar@bates.edu and we will be happy to provide you a copy of the translation on Bates letterhead.
