Diplomas
Graduating Seniors
The Bates diploma reflects the student’s degree and the name that the student chooses to display. The name on the diploma may be different from the student’s legal name on record with the college.
Changing the name that shows on your diploma will require you to order a replacement diploma. Please see the Credential Request page to place your order; the form asks for the current name on your credential as well as the name that you wish to appear on the new diploma. If you have any questions about this process, please contact our office.
Replacement Diplomas for Alumni
The Registrar’s Office will provide replacement diplomas for Bates alumni as needed. The new diploma will contain the date your degree was conferred though the signatures will be those of the current Bates President and Secretary of the Board of Trustees.
Diploma replacements are now handled electronically, and there is no need to mail a check. Please see the Credential Request page to order a replacement diploma.
Electronic Diplomas
Bates College has partnered with Paradigm, Inc. to offer electronic credentials to alumni. Beginning in May 2025, Graduates will receive electronic credentials in addition to their traditional paper diplomas. More details about electronic diplomas can be found on the Certified Electronic Diploma (CeDiploma) page.
Alumni who graduated before May 2025 may order an electronic diploma at a cost of $20. This is a one-time fee to cover Bates’ costs with our vendor, and will give you permanent access to view and share your electronic credential. To order an electronic diploma, please see the Credential Request page.
Translation of the Diploma
We understand that as the Bates diploma is written in Latin a translation may be helpful. Please email registrar@bates.edu and we will be happy to provide you a copy of the translation on Bates letterhead.
