How do I get credit for my Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, or A-Levels?
I had my AP scores sent. Where’s my credit?
It can take up to ten business days for us to receive your electronic scores from the College Board, and another three-to-five business days for us to process the scores. If it’s been more than two weeks since you received confirmation from the College Board that your scores were sent, please email us at registrar@bates.edu to check in.
How do I transfer credit from another institution?
You must submit a completed transfer credit application and course description for each course you’d like to transfer. Please have the relevant Bates department chair review your application prior to submitting it to the Registrar’s Office. If the Registrar’s Office determines that the course is eligible for transfer, the credit will be posted to your Bates record upon receipt of an official transcript showing a grade of C or better.
Where is my transfer credit?
If you submitted a completed transfer credit application and course description for the course and received notification that it was approved, please be sure that you’ve sent an official transcript from the other institution showing a grade of C or better. Transfer credit is typically posted to your Bates record within five business days once we have all of your materials.
I have a question about my Degree Audit
Please email your question to registrar@bates.edu. Include your name and Bates ID.
What are the deadlines for adding, dropping, or making a course pass/fail?
Please refer to the Student Dates and Deadlines calendar that can be found on the student advising portal (https://www.bates.edu/dof/student-advising-portal/) in the “Important Dates and Deadlines for Students” section. You can add this calendar to your personal Google calendar by clicking the blue plus sign in the lower right hand corner.
When I try to register it says that I have holds preventing registration. What does that mean?
You can view your account holds via the Students menu in Garnet Gateway. Under the Current header, choose Holds, then review the information about the hold(s) on your account. Once you resolve the hold(s) that are preventing registration, you’ll be able to register.
How do I order a transcript?
You can order a transcript here. Choose the “Ordering your own credentials or academic records” option and follow the prompts to place your order. You can order electronic or paper transcripts through this service, and there is no charge to order a transcript.
Current students should use their Bates email account to place their order. Alumni should use a current personal email account to place their order.
My legal name has changed. How do I update my Bates record?
Email registrar@bates.edu to make arrangements to come to Libbey and complete a name change form. You will need to provide official documentation of the change (passport, court order, social security card, drivers license) when submitting the form.
I’m planning to receive a BS degree. How do I change my degree from BA to BS?
Complete the Change of Anticipated Degree form. All students are awarded a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree unless they indicate a change to a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree.
If your plans change and you no longer wish to complete the BS degree requirements, you can submit a new copy of the same form to change back to BA.
How do I register for an independent study?
Complete the independent study approval form, get the faculty member who’s advising your independent study to sign it, get the chair of that faculty member’s department to sign it, and return it to Libbey. Registrar’s Office staff will process the form and register you for the course. The last day to add an independent study is the same as the last day to add a course for the semester.
Please be sure that all fields on the form are answered completely. If adding the independent study will put you over the maximum allowable credits for the semester, you will need to drop a course before we can add the independent study to your record.
How do I get proof of my enrollment?
You can request an enrollment verification via the Students menu in Garnet Gateway. Under the Records header, choose Enrollment Verification, then follow the prompts to request a verification via the National Student Clearinghouse.
I’m trying to add a course and need an override from the instructor, but I’ve reached out to them and haven’t gotten a response.
The Registrar’s Office isn’t able to override prerequisite errors, let you into a course that’s full, or grant instructor permission overrides. If you aren’t having luck reaching the instructor, you might check to see if they’ve posted office hours and drop by to see them during that time. You might also ask if the department chair has any advice for reaching the instructor. If you aren’t able to secure an override that’s needed for you to add the course, you’ll need to pick a different course.
I didn’t get optimized into a course that I wanted and my petition wasn’t selected. What do I do?
If you see a spot open up in the course during add/drop and the course doesn’t require instructor permission, you can try to snag that open seat.
If the course requires instructor permission and the instructor grants you an override, you can add the course at any point during add/drop.
If the course is full and you don’t have permission to register for the course, you’ll need to pick a different course.
The instructor’s given me an override but I’m getting a registration error that won’t let me register.
If you received the automatic notification that the override was applied, confirm that the information in that message is correct. If it’s not, follow up with the instructor to ask them to issue a new override. If you didn’t receive an automatic notification, the override hasn’t been applied yet and you should follow up with the instructor to ask them to put it on so that you can register for the course.
