Winter 2025 Registration

Registration opens in Garnet Gateway on Friday, November 1 at 9:00am ET and closes Friday, November 8 at 4:00pm ET.

You can check out the schedule beginning October 25 and you’ll need to meet with your advisor to have your advising hold lifted before you’ll be able to register. This registration period is not first-come, first-served so you can enter your choices at any point before 4:00pm ET on Friday, November 8. We recommend not waiting until the last minute to connect with your advisor – missing the November 8 cutoff means you’ll have to wait until add/drop to register. After this initial registration period, your schedule is not yet final.

After registration closes, the Registrar’s Office applies an algorithm to any course that oversubscribed during the registration period. Students who aren’t selected will become eligible to petition for the one or two seats left open in each of those courses. Results will be released via Garnet Gateway at Noon ET on Tuesday, November 12.

Once you’ve reviewed your results, if you’re eligible to petition for any courses, you can submit your petition information to the instructor via Garnet Gateway by Sunday, November 17 at 11:59pm ET. The instructor will review all received petitions and select one or two students to be added to the course. You cannot petition for courses you didn’t add during the initial registration period. If the instructor selects your petition, Registrar’s Office staff will change your status for the course to Registered before add/drop opens. If the course doesn’t show as Registered prior to add/drop opening, you are not registered for the course and will need to pick something else in add/drop.

Add/drop opens for all students Tuesday, December 3 at 7:00am ET.

During the initial registration period, you can add up to 4.5 credits. When add/drop opens, you can add up to a total of 5.5 credits.

You will not be able to register until your advising hold is lifted, and we recommend reviewing your holds in Garnet Gateway to be sure you don’t have any other holds that might prevent registration. If you’ve met with your advisor and your advising hold hasn’t been lifted, please re-connect with your advisor. The Registrar’s Office cannot lift advising holds.

If you’re not eligible to take a course for some reason, the system will give you a registration error. Most errors are self-explanatory, but you can check out this reference if you have questions or aren’t sure what an error means. With the exception of time-conflict overrides for conflicting final exams, the Registrar’s Office cannot issue overrides for errors. The instructor must apply an override for any errors you’re getting if they’d like to let you register for their course. Once overrides are applied, it’s your responsibility to register for the course.

Your key resource for registration is your academic advisor(s). You’ll need to meet with them to discuss your plans and have your advising hold lifted before you’ll be able to register.

The Student Advising Portal has information on a variety of topics and is a great way to answer all manner of questions.
