Dear Students,

I am writing with regard to policies and practices related to speakers, performers, and protests. This semester, a number of colleagues and I have worked to bring together various policies and practices across the college so that we may more effectively offer guidance to students who may wish to bring speakers or performers to campus or to hold a protest. A group of faculty is also currently working to develop a set of principles related to free speech at Bates. The results of this faculty work may eventually necessitate changes to current policiesa and practices, but in the meantime, I want to make this information more accessible to students.
