Summary, Scope, and Responsibilities
Campus Activities and Traditions (CAT) oversees large- and small-scale events, traditions and programs on the Bates campus designed to meet the interests of Bates students and create a lively, inclusive community. CAT oversees and plans events over the course of the academic year.
CAT’s First Year Experience Coordinator will oversee large- and small-scale events, traditions, and programs on the Bates campus with the goal of making the event appealing to First-Year Students. The First Year Experience Coordinator works closely with the CAT Manager, and CAT Advisor for each CAT sponsored event, tradition, and program. The First Year Experience Coordinator will also work closely with Assistant Director for First-Year Experience and Campus Life.

Qualifications, Requirements, and Responsibilities
Responsibilities
•Solicit ideas from CAT and the general student body regarding programming. This can be things such as themes or events they would like to see.
•Work closely with Campus Life staff to plan the logistics of each event and surrounding activities, including necessary materials, set-up, tear-down, staffing, and general event flow.
•Plan and host social programs/events that span a variety of times for the Bates students.
•Attend weekly CAT meetings.
•Create graphic designs (e.g. posters, flyers) using Canva, Photoshop, or another software.
•Document and promote events on social media, websites, etc. (by being present at events or asking others to send you photos & videos)
•Oversee, edit and update CAT Board social media and website.
•Work closely with the other members of CAT to make sure the event has appropriate staffing needs met.
•Maintain event budgets.
•Communicate with CAT Advisor and CAT Manager.
•Serve as leaders and primary point person to create and execute each event.
•Report to Assistant Director for First Year Experience and Campus Life to help plan and facilitate first-year, first weekend programs on the first weekend of each month.
•Collaborate with campus partners as needed to create meaningful events for students.
•Ensure event marketing materials, venue spaces, and other logistical matters are done in a timely manner.
•Maintain record of supply inventory and purchases for first-year, first weekend events.
•Respond to office communications within 24 hours except under special circumstances.
•Assist with events set-up and tear-down (depending on staffing needs).
•Commit to personal leadership development through application of the Bates Leads framework in all aspects of the work

•Finance and budget management skills.

•Organized, responsible, personable, and enthusiastic about student-led and -driven programming.
•Excited to work with a diverse group of students and staff.
•Good interpersonal-, conflict management, and time management skills.
•Awareness of Bates social life, and a vested interest in events and programming.
•Experience and passion for leading and working in a peer-to-peer environment.
Reporting
The First Year Experience Coordinator will report to the CAT Manager, CAT Supervisor, and the Assistant Director for First-Year Experience and Campus Life. This role will also work closely with multiple Campus Partners. Historically common partners are Campus Life, DCCE, Grounds, Facilities, and Safety.
Working Conditions
This job does not require an in office requirement as work can be done at home. This job does not have weekly set hours. This job works outside the typical 9 AM to 5 PM, as some weekends and nights are required. This job will require workers to be able to lift up to 25 pounds.
