Summary, Scope, and Responsibilities

The Production Assistant performs a variety of tasks for the Department of Theater & Dance.

Responsibilities include, but may not be limited to: building scenic elements and props; using carpentry power tools (drills, saws, fasteners, etc.); painting; hanging / focusing and circuiting lighting fixtures; assisting with tech rehearsals and performances as well as set ups for events in our various spaces.

Qualifications, Requirements, and Responsibilities

Responsibilities


Experience in some area of construction, stage electrics or running productions is preferred but not required. We will train you! Expected hours worked per week will be 8 but may fluctuate due to class and production schedule. Production Assistants will install scenery and masking, and works with a range of wood working tools. Prior theater experience is desired but not required. The Production Assistant will work in the Schaeffer Theatre, Gannett Theater, Black Box, and Scenic Shop and frequently uses saws, drills, pneumatic tools, paint, and a stage counterweight system.

Requirements


The Production Assistant must be a current Bates student. Having successfully passed THEA 132 or THEA 232 is a plus. Training will be provided.

Reporting


Production Assistants report to the Technical Director and Faculty Production Manager.

Working Conditions


You must be able to lift 50 lbs. and climb a ladder in excess of twelve feet.
