ATH: Sports Medicine Student Aide (S9638B)

Summary, Scope, and Responsibilities

The Sports Medicine Student Aide will be responsible for assisting Certified Athletic Trainers (ATC) with day to day tasks as assigned by the supervising ATC. Students will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Work in a healthcare field and facility, while maintaining an expected level of privacy and professionalism
  • CPR/First Aid
  • Field set up and break down
  • Hydration and Ice preparation
  • Cleaning Duties
  • Performing inventories
  • Stocking shelves, taping tables, medical kits, etc.
  • Provide additional eyes and ears for ATC’s during practices and games
  • Sideline recognition of an athlete struggling with heat illness, head injury, etc.
  • Provide first responder support to the sports medicine department as assigned.

Qualifications, Requirements, and Responsibilities

Responsibilities


Students will be working indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions. Willingness to work on weeknights (must be available from 3:00 PM to 7:30 PM) and weekends. Students should feel comfortable with manual labor and safely lifting 50 pounds.

Requirements


We prefer that students are CPR/ First Aid Certified or are willing to become certified. Valid Driver’s License and ability to drive a golf cart. Individual will be trained in basic taping techniques and demonstrate proficiency prior to taping athletes for participation. Must have good computer entry skills and be proficient in commonly used software. The candidate should also have strong clerical and organizational skills. Excellent communication skills and decision making. Energetic, independent, and willing to work with various types of athletes.

Reporting


Students will work with the entire Sports Medicine Staff, coaches, equipment managers, and student-athletes.
