Summary, Scope, and Responsibilities

Campus Activities & Traditions (CAT) Managers coordinate all work and activities of the programming board, and represent the programming board to the Bates community. The core job responsibility of the Managers is to ensure CAT is running smoothly, and address issues – logistical, interpersonal, emergency, etc. – accordingly. It is preferred that one Manager not be a senior, so as to ensure continuity and clarity of vision for CAT.

Qualifications, Requirements, and Responsibilities

Responsibilities


Holding regular meetings with Assistant Managers, discussing the progress of their work and providing counsel. Developing the agenda for and leading weekly general meetings of CAT. Working in close contact and consultation with the Office of Campus Life staff. Maintaining order at CAT meetings, taking attendance. Planners of activities geared toward CAT unity and team building. Depending on staffing needs of particular events, the Managers are expected to assist with physical event set-up and/or tear-down. The Managers supervise all of the CAT student staff. Must maintain all records for the board, primarily via the CAT Team Google Drive. This includes taking meeting attendance, sending meeting agendas to committee leads & members at least 24 hours in advance, documenting minutes at meetings, and sending meeting minutes to members within 48 hours of the conclusion of the meeting. The Managers will host regular meetings to assess the health of the board, and provide direction to other students involved. For the most part, they will not staff events or programs, however, depending on a given event or program’s needs, they may be expected to help with set-up and/or tear-down, which may include lifting heavy objects.

Requirements


At least one year of experience as a programmer with demonstrated success and reliability. Has good interpersonal and conflict management skills. Organized, responsible, personable, and enthusiastic about student-led and -driven programming. Should have experience in, and passion for, peer-to-peer learning environments. Able and willing to work with a diverse group of students and staff. Able to respond to office communications in a timely manner (no more than 24 hours except under special circumstances). Have an exceptional ability to multitask and engage in time management. Able to adhere to established project deadlines. Have an awareness of Bates social life, and a vested interest in events and programming. Have experience with leading and working with peers in a group project setting. Not have a planned leave from campus during the academic year, e.g., study abroad, semester off, etc.

Reporting


Reports to the Coordinator for Campus Life Programming, works closely with other members of CAT and other campus partners as appropriate.
