We are looking to fill several (1-2) temporary positions in our animal care facility. Our facility currently houses mice and zebrafish; we will also have rats over short term. |
Applications are due by Friday March 7th; Interviews for qualified candidates will occur during the week of March 10th; Hiring decisions will be released on Monday March 24th, with onboarding paperwork/any necessary work authorization to be completed within that week; New hires will begin in person training the week of March 31st so as to begin independent work in the animal colony (potentially, if their schedule allows) over finals and short term. |

Qualifications, Requirements, and Responsibilities
Responsibilities
• Feeding, watering, changing cages and general husbandry for rats and mice
• Feeding, changing tanks, maintaining and evaluating water chemistry and general husbandry for zebrafish and rotifers
• Stocking supplies, and cage and supply cleaning
• Working with the Vivarium Coordinator to adequately address the needs to the vivarium on a case-by-case basis
Requirements
• Be working towards a college degree (preferred)
• Some life science lab experience involving vertebrates (preferred)
• Interest in working with animals (required)
• Good communication skills (required)
• Flexible availability, including at least one weekend day (required)
• Candidates should be a team player, dependable, honest, have strong attention to detail (required)
Reporting
Reports to the Vivarium Coordinator (Jessi Kemp), may also work with Mark Lessard and vivarium users on occasion.
Working Conditions
Applicants should be able to lift 50 lbs (on occasion). Work is completed while standing, sometimes for long periods of time.
