Summary, Scope, and Responsibilities
The Student Partnership Intern position helps to create a partnership between the Bates Communications’ Design Team and the student body, and to improve our representation of student life here at Bates, with specific focus on accurately and empathetically representing the experiences of BIPOC students at Bates.
The Student Partnership Intern will be a strategic member of the design team, communicating about design projects with students, soliciting feedback and ideas from students about design priorities, and helping to set up rolling focus groups with current students and the design team to gather responses, feedback, and suggestions.
Priority will be given to applicants who have an established commitment to antiracism work and interest in communications, design, or marketing.

Strong communication skills, confidence in presenting and offering ideas, openness to offering constructive criticism and guidance
Excellent networking skills within the student body
Commitment to antiracism work and practices of equity, inclusion, and social justice
Ability to have tough conversations while maintaining relationships
Empathy, curiosity, self-motivation, and strategic thinking
Experience with social media networks
Interest in principles of marketing, design, and/or communications work
Reporting
The Student Liaison reports to the Director of Design Services and interacts regularly with the full design team, made up of two visual/graphic designers and one web designer. They may work with other members of the Communications team as time goes on.
