Summary, Scope, and Responsibilities
The STEM/Pre-Health Student Assistant plays an important role in advocating for students interested in STEM and healthcare careers by providing resources as well as individualized and tailored support in their career exploration process. As part of the PW Student Team, this paid role works closely with the Associate Director of STEM and Pre-Health Advising to create career development programs and assist with outreach to the campus community. The STEM/Pre-Health Student Assistant role is open to current sophomores and juniors, and provides an excellent opportunity to serve as a role model for peers, gain a deep understanding of the Purposeful Work career resources, and build valuable communication and organizational skills applicable to future career paths or graduate school.

Qualifications, Requirements, and Responsibilities
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
-Be a voice for students and provide advice to PW staff on strategic ways to engage and support students, faculty, and staff in the Pre-Health/STEM fields
-Conduct research and gain deep knowledge base on different industries and career paths within the STEM and Healthcare fields
-Create and update digital resources in Handshake and on the website
-Curate content for biweekly industry newsletter, featuring internship and job updates, resources, and upcoming events
-Collaborate with the center staff on workshops, events and classroom visits, including Pre-Health Meetings, STEM Scholars class presentations, etc.
-Provide 1:1 mentoring to peers offering advice on academic and career goals
-Review and provide constructive feedback on resumes, cover letters, and internship searches to help students in their career exploration process
Requirements
-Must be a current sophomore or junior and should demonstrate reliability, attention to detail, and professionalism.
-Have an interest in the healthcare and/or STEM fields and curiosity about the different career paths within those fields.
-Desire to support fellow students in their career exploration process, previous experience with Purposeful Work programs a plus.
-Strong time management and organizational skills, as well as ability to work independently
-Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, including strong writing, editing, spelling and grammatical skills
-Have a high proficiency in technology (Handshake, Google Docs and Slides, Excel, Internet, social media); ability to learn new techniques and databases quickly.
