Summary, Scope, and Responsibilities

The Digital Media Assistant provides client-facing support in the Digital Media Studios. In this role, the incumbent staffs the desk at the equipment exchange, and provides support, consultation and troubleshooting for users of the media lab. In addition, the incumbent may be asked to support the DMS professional staff in the creation of media or in the support of other media production tasks. An interest or passion for filmmaking, photography, technology and/or digital storytelling is desired and a willingness to learn is essential.

Responsibilities


List of Tasks and Responsibilities: – Answer basic client questions regarding digital media production. – Assist users in the check-out and check-in of loaner pool equipment. – Under direction of staff, capture, edit, transcode, and upload video and audio media. – Assist in basic troubleshooting at the Digital Media Studios labs and studios. – Elevate complex issues to appropriate Digital Media Studios professional staff

Requirements


- An interest in digital media production and a demonstrable aptitude and interest in technology is required. - A positive, professional attitude when under pressure. Experience with digital video production and editing, particularly in the production of video essays or other academic digital media assignments is helpful but not required - Experience with. and interest in, digital photography, videography and other imaging tools is also very helpful.

Reporting


- Works closely with the staff of Curricular Research and Computing. - Works closely with other student employees of the Bates Digital Media Studios - Works closely with clients (Faculty, Staff, and Students) of the Digital Media Exchange (DMX).
