ILS: Academic Technology Intern I (S9845B)
Summary, Scope, and Responsibilities
Curricular and Research Computing (CRC) seeks self-motivated, energetic students who
want hands-on technical experience working with a wide range of technologies.
Students will work on various projects in a support capacity, as well as staff the Roger
Williams Hall computer lab or the Coram Visualization Lab. These students must have
excellent interpersonal communication skills and the ability to learn quickly.
Duties will involve contributing to projects as assigned, and providing basic instruction
and troubleshooting in computer software or hardware problems. Curricular and
Research Computing supports both Macintosh and Windows environments. We will
provide training as necessary to enable interns to carry out their duties.
This internship will be focused on learning the processes of 3D printing and helping other students with their 3D printing needs. There is also the likelihood of assisting with virtual reality demos, laser cutting, 3D modeling and CNC fabrication in the VizLab.
Specific responsibilities include, but may not be limited to:
- Maintain proper standards for facility use
- Ensure the lab computers and peripherals are functioning properly
- Communicate any problems students or faculty are having to the IT Service Desk
- Assist CRC staff on academic support projects
- Meeting and coordinating with other students as needed. Maintaining 3D printing equipment. Helping with other VizLab projects and events as they occur.
