ATH: Equipment Operations Assistant (S9609B)

Summary, Scope, and Responsibilities

The Equipment Operations Assistant supports the day-to-day operations of Athletic Equipment Operations which includes working in the equipment rooms, staffing the equipment issue window for equipment distribution and collection, perform laundering services, and maintaining inventory. This position also assists with practice and contest management, facility management, and minor maintenance.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform daily laundering of equipment as scheduled including washing, drying and folding
  •  Assist with field/court preparation and teardown for athletic team practices.
  • Assist with the collection, maintenance, and distribution of athletic team game and practice gear
  • Support the management of accurate records of equipment and supply inventory
  • Assist with minor repair, preventative maintenance and cleaning of equipment and supplies including safety gear (Football helmets, shoulder pads, lacrosse helmets, etc.)
  • Assist with athletic contest management including event set-up/break down/changeover, opening/closing of facilities, crowd management, customer service, enforcement of guidelines
  • Maintain overall organization and cleanliness of Athletics Equipment service and storage areas
  • Complete scheduled tasks and necessary forms and reports
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of and monitor proper equipment use; accurately follow direction and diagrams; complete event responsibilities in a timely fashion
  • Uphold the mission and values and be an active representative of the Department of Athletics
  • Maintain a strong knowledge of and enforce all guidelines and procedures
  • All other duties assigned as by the supervisor and other Athletics staff

Responsibilities


Work environment can be warm and noisy at times. Also may be required to work outdoors in cold or warm temperatures and weather. Physically demanding and requires the ability to: climb stairs; push, lift and carry heavy load; distinguish colors in accordance with color-coded system; stand for long-durations.

Requirements:  Ability to effectively monitor and communicate to student-athletes, coaches, and staff  Ability to use or learn how to use minor hand and power tools  Punctuality, attention to detail, ability to meet deadlines; Good oral and written communication skills  Indoor and outdoor work required  Ability to lift 30 pounds  Sport-specific equipment knowledge is preferred but not required  Flexible schedule; hours include mornings, evenings, weekends, some holidays and summer (if available)  Weekends scheduled on a rotating basis
