SA: Campus Life Podcast Coordinator (S99788)

Summary, Scope, and Responsibilities

The Campus Life Podcast Coordinator serves as the individual primarily responsible for the logistical planning, production, and posting of the Scratch That: Ignorance Isn’t Bliss podcast. The podcast is formatted like a talk show, and will invite various campus stakeholders in to speak with Campus Life Equity & Inclusion Peer Advisors about how white supremacy can manifest in club and org cultures, and ways to help mitigate and address it. They also work in collaboration with the Campus Life Marketing Team to ensure that the podcast is promoted on campus and via Campus Life’s social media channels. The podcast is nearing the end of its development phase, and will serve as the cornerstone of the Campus Life Equity & Inclusion Toolkit for clubs and organizations.

This position involves a high level of responsibility, and requires creative thinking. Campus Life professional staff can guide and support the Podcast Coordinator, but it is ultimately up to each Peer Advisor to manage their day-to-day workload and meet established deadlines.

Qualifications, Requirements, and Responsibilities

Responsibilities


Attending weekly Equity & Inclusion Peer Advisor meetings, typically 60 to 90 minutes in length. Completing assignments in between weekly meetings as necessary. Developing and executing a monthly podcast production cadence. This includes: Working with E&I Peer Advisors and identified guests to schedule recording sessions. Working with E&I Peer Advisors to establish talking points for each podcast. Editing each episode of the podcast. Posting each episode of the podcast on a distribution platform. Coordinating with the Campus Life Marketing Team to ensure each episode of the podcast is promoted widely.

Requirements


Must be passionate and knowledgeable about social justice issues, both generally and at Bates specifically. Must have knowledge of how to use recording equipment, ideally equipment that is available at Bates College (e.g., campus recording studios and associated hardware and software). Must have knowledge of and experience with audio editing software for the purpose of producing podcasts. Must have experience with podcast distribution platforms (e.g., Zencastr), Must be organized, responsible, personable, enthusiastic and able to work well with others. Must be able and willing to work with a diverse group of students and staff. Must be able to respond to communications (predominantly via email) in a timely manner (no more than 24 hours except under special circumstances). Should have an exceptional ability to multitask and engage in time management. Must be able to adhere to established project deadlines.

Reporting


The Podcast Coordinator will report to Campus Life staff. They will work closely with Campus Life Equity & Inclusion Peer Advisors. They will interact with other Campus Life student employees, as well as podcast guests.

Working Conditions


The students will be expected to meet as a group weekly, though the nature of this job requires independent work outside of an office setting. Mostly sitting.
