Introducing Courtney Smith, Associate Professor of Design, Technology, and Management

The Department of Theater and Dance is thrilled to announce that Courtney Smith will be joining us as Associate Professor of Design, Technology, and Management beginning in the 24-25 academic year! He will be offering courses theater technology and design, as well as serving as the Production Manager for the department’s performance season. Welcome, Courtney!

COURTNEY SMITH is a lighting, digital media designer, and production manager whose work spans many genre & media including live theater, dance, tv, film, and events. Courtney’s work has been seen in theaters from coast to coast and internationally including: (Off-Broadway) A.R.T./NY, Atlantic Theatre Stage 2, The Bushwick Starr, Roundabout Theatre Company, New York City Opera, Playwrights Horizons, Classic Stage Company, Cedar Lake Dance, Marvel Repertory Theatre, (International) Southwark Playhouse; UK (Regional) Warren Miller Performing Arts Center, MT; Mount Baker Repertory Theatre, WA; Montana Shakespeare in the Parks, MT; Coeur d’Alene Summer Theatre, ID; Idaho Repertory Theatre, ID.

Courtney’s designs have received several Meritorious Achievement Awards from the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival. Additionally, his work received a “Distinguished Achievement Award in Design” from the Kennedy Center in Washington DC. 

Some of Courtney’s notable projects include work for Victoria’s Secret, Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, and window display design & fabricator for Saks 5th Ave.

Courtney is a member of United States Institute of Theatre Technology (USITT) and has an MFA in design & technology from the University of Idaho.
