Justin Moriarty is the Technical Director of the Theater and Dance Department at Bates College. Justin holds an MFA in Interdisciplinary Arts with concentrations in socially engaged performance creation, education, and writing for social action. Justin is a proud and active member of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, I.A.T.S.E. Local 114, out of Portland, Maine. 

Justin has been a professional live performance designer, educator, and event manager since 2003. In 2005, Justin began working with William Pope.l. as a fabrication engineer, stage manager, performer, designer, and task accomplisher.

Justin has been designing lights professionally for both theater and dance. Their designs have been seen across the United States and Internationally. Justin’s most recent research interests explore the power of the artist residency in academic settings, alongside the interconnected relationship between safety and well-being in those spaces.
