Laser Cutting
The VizLab has a Glowforge Pro Laser Cutter, bundled with a Glowforge Premium account. Designs can be made in Adobe Illustrator, Cuttle, or directly in Glowforge software.
Our material library includes draftboard (MDF), wood, veneer, acrylic, and leather. It is possible to bring in your own materials, as long as they are less than 1/2″ thick. The Glowforge Pro cannot cut through metals, but it can engrave onto the surface of them.
Please see a staff member or student worker to get trained on the laser cutter!
Yes, you can make 3D objects with the laser cutter! The frame for this hyperbolic paraboloid is made out of sheets of laser-cut acrylic that snap together.
Making and Finishing Station
The VizLab also provides a work area to polish up 3D printed and laser-cut objects. We have basic tools including wrenches, lubricant, glue, a dremel, hot air gun, tweezers, soldering iron, and sanding equipment.
